LOL, sure they do. I've seen it where they tried on purpose. As to why, I don't know.
I've also read about it many times but, sometimes there's even video. In the Washington DC area in the past few years a driver tried to run a cop over about 5 miles from my home (cop survived) and then there was a cop from the Metropolitan PD who tried to run a few people over that were banging on his SUV that were rioters. He got in his vehicle like any sane person would when they started to charge him and left. He wasn't charged for hitting them.
