I’ve had dogs in my family ever since I can remember. So I find these videos more emotive than most.

But this is a difficult one. I actually think the cop would have been brave not to shoot it given the lack of time to consider alternatives. In the second half of the video with sound, the dog was clearly on the offensive and sounded aggressive. The cop would have almost no chance in calming it down.

I don’t condone the killing of the dog, despite it being a genuine defensive move by the cop. But in this case, the owners didn’t have control, or adequate training, of their potentially aggressive dog.

None of the dogs in my family over 40 years, mostly German Shepherds, have ever been aggressive to humans or other dogs. Although, Coco and my mum’s GS may cuddle people to death 😂…

Stupid owners. Dog shouldn't be off leash. I read it happened in Davenport and that the dog "liked to play in the alley behind their house with the neighborhood boys". Cop saw an animal off leash and asked the kids to put the dog inside. Video shows the rest. RIP doggo.

I have two Rottweilers, that said. I have a conceal carry permit. If a strangers dog ran up on me like that I might have shot it also. I don't do other people's dogs.

That was utterly horrific…I seriously don’t support owners who let their pets run all over,( and why didn’t she run after the dog??) however I agree the cop should have used a taser, because the dog would have just run off, to do that in front of those children…welp, now the kids probably have PTSD from this awful event.

I love dogs but would have done the same. He gave it a chance,and the owner to control, the dog went back in for another crack and bang bang bad owner.

1. The dog is not attacking. He's being friendly and bouncy, just like he was on the street. Any reasonable adult who is competent to be in a position of public trust should know that.

2. Why was the cop even there?? From watching the full video, I think he just had a bug up his ass that the dog ran up to his car. Didn't require a home visit. Literally one sentence out the window to the kids about not letting their dog go into traffic.

3. He's using excessive force for the situation. Discharging a gun in a residential area with children around is not zero risk to humans. Killing the dog instead of accurately assessing his body language, or getting back into the car, was unnecessary. He didn't even tase him, just went right to lethal force.

This cop is a shit and if the world were other than a totally unfair place, he'd no longer be breathing, and he would have been--sloooowly and without mercy--relieved of his cock and balls first.

Bouncy my ass you hear the bark? long and deep. The dog was on the cusp of having a nip. blame the owner fool. The cop sorted the situation fast and very efficiantly.

We lost one of our German Shepherd guard dogs when we innocently took him for a walk in the park. Am elderly man came to close and the dog bit him. We had to put the dog down ( one of our best ) so he could be checked for rabies.

German Shepherds are FULLY capable of taking a hunk out of someone! Don't let your guard down. Put a muzzle on them in a situation where you will be around a lot of strangers that the dog does not know. For the dog's sake...as well as for strangers.
