LOL - you need to pay for a subscription if you want your ass warm in a BMW

LOL, those crafty German kunts

BMW is now selling heated seats as a monthly subscription in some countries, reflecting a growing trend in the automotive industry of locking features behind a digital paywall.
In Austra, the U.K., South Africa and New Zealand, BMW owners can pay C$19 to C$23 per month to access front heated seats or pay C$504 to C$540 to have it enabled permanently.
The hardware required for heated seats is already installed in the vehicle, but purchasing the feature through BMW's ConnectedDrive Store unlocks the feature for users through a digital update.
Other features available as a monthly subscription include automatic high beam assists, heated steering wheels, adaptive cruise control with lane-keep assist and the built-in dash camera. The price of these range anywhere between C$15 to C54 per month.

As much as I think this is kind of a dink move my deviant marketing brain thinks its pretty smart and the way of the future. The reality is it probably doesn't cost a manufacture much to add any of these options but there's value for the consumer so its chargeable. I can see that for some options like heated seats you many only want them for a few months of the year so it might make sense to pay as you go. Its a model that's been used by software and IT vendors forever. It also provides an annuity revenue stream for BMW which shareholders love. However a problem I can see is with the more computerization of vehicles its greater risk of them being hackable.

What's next, do you like power windows? For just 9.99 per month you can use a button or you'll have to fit the handles we included in your glove box. Do you like glove boxes? For 9.99 we'll let you open this stylish internal box which contains your window handles. Do you like keyless entry? For 9.99 per month you can enter your car without the hassle of carrying keys (note: keys do not work with gloveboxes)

Actually the model is going to be everything as an app on your phone. So good luck when you lose your mobile.

And us old fucks remember when the worst the dealerships could rape you was with the floormats and undercoat.

Don't give them any ideas.

And ya, so angry birds crashes once and a while....no big deal. What happens when your ABS brakes that you're paying $14.95/month fail because you just installed the latest IOS update.

I have a base model Kia, and have a built in dash camera, and adaptive cruise control lane assist for free. I don't care about the heated shit lol...the more features that become available only means the more things that can go wrong with your car...

First time I experienced heated seats was about 30 years ago in a friend's Porsche. After being out in the cold & wet for five hours (golfing in the mountains.....white people problems) heated seats were EXCELLENT! I've had them in my last six vehicles and they're awesome....last three have had cooled/vented seats and a heated steering wheel. The steering wheel I thought was kind of gimmicky until I used it. -30 outside and its a brilliant feature.

BMW owners are happy to get fucked in the ass by that company, one of my old colleagues use to BRAG about getting fucked by BMW, it cost him $400 just to change the filters in the air conditioning system (which he did once every 4 months), he told me this as a if it was a good thing.
I briefly owned a used BMW motorbike and they're fucking money pits. I'd love a new R1250GS but aside from the insane purchase price I don't feel like being raped with every maintenance item or service.

I got a new VW Tiguan (SUV) a couple of months ago. It’s not a 4x4 as they have now made 4 Motion an optional extra only available on the expensive trim options which I thought was fucking stupid for an SUV.

I haven’t set up the My Connect app but was told there is a ‘store’ via the car to purchase options such as voice control if I wanted to unlock any extras. Again I thought this was odd, but everything’s about ‘in app purchases’ these days. I wasn’t told if it was a contract or one off payment but never planned on looking as the car has the gadgets I like- adaptive cruise control with lane guidance is great for scaring passengers when you turn around and start chatting to them 😂.

It’s like Playstation games, pay £59-£99 for the game and then have to spend real money to get things to progress. I understand the marketing behind this but it’s shit for consumers. The world is greedy!

I'm sure there'll be hacks you can download to get access all the features. But yeah what a scam!
My last two trucks I purchased a map update for the NAV system that also included an unlock for the safety feature that disables the inputting of address info, etc. while in motion. Obviously wasn't from a Dodge dealership and I'm sure it somehow voids a warranty but its convenient.

Yeah I got a golf, but unlocked colour change mod in dash, different style clocks, different background of clocks, got rid of undertake prevention, and a few other little tweaks, also added golf gt to the startup on the mib,
Any the mo I’m just messing with the android auto so that it has no limitations, (plus I’m trying to get a tablet to work 😂🤣😂) CarPlay is done in the phone and I can’t be bothered to jailbreak that,
