You never pick up a turtle (snapping or otherwise) from the front. They are faster than they look and can reach quite a ways. I'm sure most of you know this already but there is always a certain percentage of mouth breathers that may not.

You can't even grab one by the tail. They are will whip that neck around and make lunch of your fingers before you know what happened.
That turtle is small. The actual incident that severed the boy’s finger involved a 76cm alligator snapping turtle.
