movies Gladiator II | Official Trailer (2024 Movie) - Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington

I've liked Russell Crowe since he played Hando (best-dressed skinhead on celluloid) in Romper Stomper. Plus he looks like my dad. But I can't watch this shit cash-in sequel.

I'm kind of picky when it comes to movies. Don't get me wrong, I like schlocky shit cinema often, but I can't deal with overhyped overproduced obscenely budgeted Hollywood nonsense. Instead, give me a small film with heart any day. For example, I saw this small film recently and thought it was brilliant: Breathe In (2013) ⭐ 6.3 | Drama, Romance . It stars Guy Pearce, another actor who I really like, and who starred with Crowe in L.A. Confidential; as well as the always gorgeous and excellent Felicity Jones. Plus, the music was beautiful (truly). Highly recommend.

The singing.. it was unbearable. Jesus.
I have a difficult time watching musicals as well. I had a girlfriend who loved them, so I sat through a lot of them, but the only two I have ever liked are: Phantom of the Paradise (1974) ⭐ 7.3 | Comedy, Drama, Fantasy and Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001) ⭐ 7.7 | Comedy, Drama, Music

I’ve just come to some deep realization that I was missing out so much on great musical films. I’ve added those in my list to watch. Thanks Bruno! Why I couldn’t fathom though, why make shitty films and overhype it. I guess to each their own, eh?

Thing is I do love a good musical, this was not one of those.
I was forced to go by an ex but she forced me into things I unexpectedly enjoyed too like going to see Hairspray and phantom of the opera.... Twice.
Aww. I remember watching Hairspray with mum. I’ve heard about Phantom of the Opera too.

Look at you both giving in to you girlfriends’ wishes. ☺️ Kudos to you both!

No, don't watch "Phantom of the Opera"! - it'll rot your brain! "Phantom of the Paradise" is the one to watch. (Phew! That was close. I didn't want to be responsible for your lobotomy-by-musical. I don't even want to think of what happened to Jessica's brain for having watched that 😢).

Btw, hyping and advertising movies ensures a return on the movie studios' and movie producers' financial investments, so movies with big budgets have likewise big advertising campaigns in order to facilitate that return (i.e.,$$$); but that does not speak to the film's quality, as big movie studios try to appeal the largest audience possible (i.e., selling movie tickets, streaming purchases, etc.), so they tend to produce dumb entertaining movies that are artistically and creatively bereft. For clarity, I love cinema, and there's over a century of brilliantly creative cinema to be enjoyed, so, having some cognizance of that, it's always disappointing to see the crap that is pushed onto audiences today.
