A traffic accident occurred on Jalan Soekarno Hatta, specifically at Km 24, RT 12, Batuah Village, Loa Janan District, Kutai Kartanegara (Kukar), on Thursday (Dec 4, 2025) at approximately 09:30 WITA (Central Indonesian Time).
The incident involved a truck and a motorcycle, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist at the scene.
Loa Janan Police Chief, AKP Abdillah Dalimunthe, explained that the accident began when a yellow truck was traveling from the direction of Samarinda towards Balikpapan.
Upon arriving at the scene, the truck attempted to make a U-turn back towards Samarinda. At the same time, a blue Honda Vario motorcycle approached from the direction of Samarinda heading towards Balikpapan at high speed.
Due to the very short distance, a collision was unavoidable. At the time of the incident, the weather was clear, the asphalt road was in good condition, the yellow road markings were intact, the road was straight, traffic flow was relatively light, and visibility was unobstructed.
The location of the accident was also within a residential area. "As a result of the impact, the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene," said Abdillah.
He stated that the accident is suspected to have occurred due to the truck driver's lack of caution while making a U-turn, while the motorcycle was traveling at high speed and did not have time to take evasive action.
