I'm an American, and I can swim very well. Also, many of my friends and family are good swimmers. Americans can't swim?? I'm curious where u get that notion.
I was born and raised at seaside, used to be in a swimming team for two seasons as a kid, and I can swim in "real" water, but my ass always sinks, so if I must stay in one place, I do it vertically like a seal in a zoo. I can do it diagonally too, but to float fully horizontally I need to keep my legs working for the whole time. Somehow it's easier for me to swim in a sea than a pool or a lake, even though Baltic Sea isn't really that salty.

Nah, lived in Perth all my life, I can sort of stay afloat and move through the water, but I just never learnt all the different strokes and stuff. I think I got a certificate at school that says I can, but I can't. Lol. I just slipped through the cracks I guess. 🤷♂️
A Navy Clearance diver taught me how to swim.
Good ol' Newcastle, going back in Feb but with my mate this time so I'll have supervision.
