Re developed nation thing, I spent a few weeks in Germany recently and came back to Aus realizing that we are not quite first world ... I always thought we were... how terribly parochial of me...
I can't speak for Germany, but oz isn't so bad. Toured from Sydney to cairns for a month. Beautiful beaches, good beer, decent people. But the outback, spiders, and snakes are a hard pass for me. The rest of the critters are cool though.
