Great idea but dogs don't have fingers man.
They were waiting for him to do something to the dog as an excuse to beat him unconscious. Since he had no weapon on him they would had sent him to the hospital. If he had knife the dog they would had shot him. He's white and was walking in their neighborhood. Even if they had just moved in once enough animals move in an area they weed out other races and make a black enclave.
