Random Heart Patient Beaten by Anesthetist

Amata

In Hindsight Everything Is Different
Took place July 4, 2013 Russia - long time ago, but still relevant, patient abuse is not something of the past.

Back Story:

"The 61-year-old male victim, who was attacked in February at a heart surgery centre in the Urals city of Perm, died a week after the incident.
Health Minister Veronika Skortsova ordered the probe this week after the attack came to light when footage, apparently from a CCTV camera, appeared on a Russian news website.
The video shows an anaesthetist identified as Andrei Votyakov talking animatedly to the patient, who wears an oxygen mask and has his arms and legs fastened to the bed. Mr Votyakov then punches the patient in the face before bringing his fist down heavily on the victim's chest.
On Thursday, Russia's Investigate Committee opened a criminal probe into Mr Votyakov's actions on a charge of intentionally inflicting harm to a person, resulting in death.
The government newspaper Rossiskaya Gazeta said the exact cause of the man's death was unclear but "in any case, the big shock experienced could have killed off a patient balancing between life and death".
Mr Votyakov told Russian media he had lashed out at the end of a hard 36-hour shift when the patient insulted him. He said he regretted the incident but that he believed he had not caused the man's death

The fact that the guy had his arms and legs restrained makes me believe he's not a model citizen.
Patients wearing oxygen masks are often restrained to prevent them moving around, which could dislodge the mask - or accidentally pulling it off. Plus that heart surgery requires patients to maintain a certain physical position.

True or he could have come out of anesthesia swinging his arms and legs, some people have wild reactions coming out of it…After my dad was sedated so they could intubate him, they had to put him in four point restraints…this is despicable treatment though, the guy just had cardiac surgery…and blaming a 36 hour shift is bullshit, when other doctors working even more hours still have compassion and save lives…
