You want to talk about losses, civilian and military, look at how many soldiers and civies from Russia, most had entire villages wiped out when they launched operation Barbarossa, burnt to the ground, men, women and children shot in massive killing fields

Considering what Japan did to its prisoners of war etc I know my side would have bayoneted half their population if they landed. The Japs had no mercy, why would we?

Agreed, I'd rather kill myself before being taken captive, I think some of the soldiers didn't know how brutal it was going to be, only found out after the fact. Alot of beheadings, beatings, starvation, worked them to death on half a cup of filthy rice, eaten alive by rats, etc. There are still alot of uncovered mass graves, there was a good Australian movie called Blood Oath with Russell Crowe which focused on some of the murder of POW's, trials of those who ordered the killings and beatings etc.
