Steel rain 2. Summit. South Korea.

Three leaders trapped on a sub.
A attempted coup results in the leaders of South and North Korea along with the U.S. president taken hostage and trapped on a north korean submarine.
Similar idea to the first film but alot more going on. The politics of China, the Koreas and Japan were more clearly defined, the 'leaders' of each nation were pretty characteristic of what you would expect, the north was very stiff and untrusting, the south, diplomatic and friendly, the states, loud and blustery. It takes a while to kick in but there is some pretty good story telling and action scenes when things go underwater. It looks like any other sequel, bigger ideas, more characters and a different setting. The only difference is that when they are locked down in the sub, there is no 'one-man-hero' style character. (White house down, Olympus has fallen) to save the day.

Four lads in the highlands.
Three friends and one other young lad are doing The Duke of Edinburgh award, the three have to in order not to be expelled from school, the forth because he wants to. They soon find themselves hunted by a Duke and his wife.
Colourful humour with the banter between the boys mixed with graphics and songs make for an interesting film. There are a few running gags and a side plot involving two police officers. Some laugh out loud moments with some parts that strain the attention span.
Lighthearted entertainment.

The Chekist. 1992. Russia.

Executions on a daily basis drive a security official insane.
A Soviet security official carries out his duty with unflinching purpose, this basicly involves someone reading out a list of real or perceived offenders and him saying how they should be dealt with which is always shot by firing squad. He is then at the basement where they are stripped, lined up against one of five doors and shot in the head.
That is basicly the film, over and over and over. Peoples names being read out, finding them guilty, and then him pacing around smoking while a parade of endless men and women are shot dead, put on a trolly, dragged up thru a trapdoor and loaded onto a truck.
Good film in the way it shows a devoted offical who slowly goes insane, but a hard watch because of the monotony of it.
Compelling because of the ruthlessness it shows but also taxing when it starts to focus more on the killing.

Did he do it?
A serial killer writes a book and taunts the detective who was investigating the original cases. But there is doubt about weather he actually did it.
Good thriller with some well done action scenes. There are a multiple layers to the film with a number of characters, but its not hard to keep track of who's who. The two main action scenes feel a bit like that had been made to boost what would be a interesting but more drama based film. The twists are plentiful and quite unique.

One mans creative journey.
Bryan Lewis Saunders decided to do a self portrait every day for the rest of his life, from 1995 he's not missed a day in his life.
The film is Bryan talking about his life and the portraits he's done. I heard about him via the 'drug series' where he took a different substance each day and drew a picture. Interesting as that is it doesn't really show much apart from what you might think the drug would produce, and that bloke did alot of drugs and solvents in a very short time. The whole scope of the portraits and the variety of them is impressive. He has alot to say and the film at only just under 90mins could be a tad boring for anyone who is not creatively inclined, but seeking out the drug section at the 50 minute mark will give it alot of context.

An american werewof in London. 1981.

Bloke gets bit, goes feral.
Two young americans backpacking in England are attacked by a werewolf, one survives and transforms while his dead rotting mate tells him he must die.
The film is considered a horror classic, mainly for the 'transformation' scene and the make up effects of the dead people. Story wise its actually good. There is a balance of goofy humour from the american lead and a seriousness from the doctor at the hospital where he is first treated.
Some parts of it, for me at least, were fast forwardable, but it was a engaging watch with some good stunts and practical effects for the time.

The prison. 2017. South Korea.
4/10
Undercover cop in prison.
A cop goes undercover to expose the corruption in the system.
Good film that has alot going for it, but it takes nearly 90 mins of a two hour runtime to set up why and who the main character is doing this for.
There are a few flashbacks during that 90mins that show a little but although there a few different things happening inside the prison they seem to be at the expense of the main plot.
