Dramatized account of the crimes by Peter Kurten in post WW1 Germany.
The film is a steady drama depicting a quiet reversed man who murders young woman at night. The police have no real clues to go on and only women who survive his attacks.
It doesn't actually stick to modern case studies of Kurten, and the plot has him as single (he was married) and infatuated with a local singer in a bar. This serves to fill out a interesting story.
Well filmed with a slight sense of menace but portrays him as sad not sadistic.

A serial killer targets a deaf woman and her mother after she finds and links him to his latest victim.
Excellent thriller that has a small cast and loads of detail. From the beginning where the daughter is kind of on the outside where she works because of her deafness, to the gadgets they use to alert them to any sound around the car or house. It starts nicely and just eases up the tension. Brutal plot twists keep the viewer engaged with a feeling of dread.
When the killer starts targeting them solely, it had the potential to become a bullshit torment-the-victim style 2nd half. This doesn't happen simply because of a forth character and good plot that didn't get stuck.
Very well written, filmed and acted.

A couple of thieves plan to rob a gang but are beaten to it by a third man. One of is caught by the gang, they rescue the third guy then those two team up and do a bigger robbery.
Third guy wants revenge on the outsider.
Interesting film that was steady with a layered plot, but kinda campy and hard to take seriously. A woman is involved as well as cops and gangsters to a lesser degree.
The main focus was the breakdown in the initial friendship and lack of trust when things got violent.

Two sisters struggle to get along with their step mother.
Second viewing of this film, although it's been a while. Still holds up as a amazing psychological thriller. The film is a slow burn for the first hour. Setting up the characters and dropping little hints that all is not well. On a second view i did notice a few things but they are very slight and just seem natural.
The 2nd hour is where things get a bit more 'surreal' and it makes you think about what is actually going on. There is a element of horror, but it's only used in certain circumstances.
Plot wise it's kinda complicated, but that is the point. When the film starts it has the main character in a mental hospital and the doctor is asking her questions, so when it does get explained what is happening, it kinda makes sense.
Not a easy film to watch, but worth it if you like complex film that don't insult the viewer with nonsense.

Excellent crime thriller about a crew of robbers and the police that are trying to catch them.
Al Pacino and Robert De Niro star and cop and thief. The film is long but always engaging, interesting dynamics revolve around the relationships of a few of the characters.
The plot goes in a number of directions and to a degree short changes one or two, but its main focus is a bank heist that ends in a well filmed shootout running down a street.
From there is slowly winds down the fate of all the characters and ends with the two main characters.

Painful 'stunts' and pranks done by a bunch of old guys.
The forth in the series of films that sees most of them returning with a few new faces. The formula is the same as the previous films and series.
Some of the 'stunts' were just stupid while a few were actually funny. It doesn't attempt to do anything new apart from add the newbies. With the internet now offering a depth of considerable carnage and social media site inspiring idiots to partake in 'painful trends' this just looks kinda tame.

Low budget but good thriller with a small cast and limited space. The plot involves a guy in a wheelchair who rents out a room in his house to a woman and her child while listening in to a group of robbers who are planning a bank heist with a tunnel that goes under his basement. The tension is created with the dark look of the house and the fact he knows something is happening soon in the film. From there there are little moments of suspense, not stretched out, just enough to make it interesting. The plot is detailed but simple and retains a brutal realism.

A divorced doctor becomes obsessed with his landlord who runs a butchery and may or may not be a serial killer.
Slow thriller that has a unique set up but is very slow to reveal the plot. With a run time of just under two hours, i was gonna start fast forwarding at the on hour mark but seemed to spark into life a bit with the reveal of the character that was seen but not spoken to. It died down and i gave up.
It seemed the doctor was suffering from delusions and drug addiction. As with most Korean films this was buried in the plot and only hinted at.
Good film in the way it lays it out but too slow overall.

A local village 'healer' goes about her business much to the disgust of the locals, until they need her.
Economic run time of just over an hour for a film with out much plot. The local healer has some sort power that can heal aliments. It doesn't involve flashy effects and comes across as natural. Scenes are shot with a still camera most of the time with thought given to the composition.
There is a slight sub plot of her having a daughter but it's mainly the older woman dealing with day to day life what looks like a run down village.
Film itself was made in far east Russia near the arctic region, hence the puffy asian look of the main character.

Inspired by the Andrei Chikatilo killings.
Not the average 'true crime-serial killer' film. It jumps back and forth in time and breaks the film into several chapters, the film maker made a point with these chapters to highlight a particular series of behaviors when police are dealing with a murderer. This gives it a very psychological thriller feel.
It has elements of the actual crimes but it seems some plot elements are added in. This made it kinda confusing as i was expecting a depiction of how they caught him. At just over two hours its a long film, but violent. Not a boring watch even thou it jumps around alot.
One for crime film fans to take a look at. Knowledge of the actual case is not mandatory.
