Yeah, that’s the correct position. Around midway between the ends of a large muscle to ensure adequate compression of the arteries. If it was an above knee amputation, a slightly more proximal (closer to body) position would be needed.

If any of you ever need to apply a tourniquet in an emergency, place it as described above and apply compression. If it does not seem to work, just quickly try a slightly different position. Or just get your phone out, film the exsanguination and upload here 😂.
