Woke is an African American term.
It means to have 'awoken' to what is wrong with the world. To be woke, as opposed to asleep.

The word as become mainstream to describe a person who virtue signals a lot. IE on their email signiture there might be a reference to BLM, Equity over Equality, a rainbow (supports gay people), LGBT etc, the persons pronouns, etc etc. I would describe them as being 'very woke'.

These days it can also be used perjoritively. 'Please don't woke in public' or 'what a bunch of woke wankers' etc.

In effect is means to be PC.
