Communism is attractive to low-wage laborers because they believe it will even out the gap between them and people in higher paying jobs and afford them luxuries they don't currently have. It's only when they are standing in line for 2 days for a roll of toilet paper do they realize what it really does to a population.

They don't think about the fact that our government in particular has never run a damn thing efficiently and without corruption. Socialism/Communism can be an attractive idea on the surface, but its foul underneath. Because humans are by nature self-interested. The Government will never share fairly with its citizens, citizens will never share fairly with each other, so neither will ever work.
