Let It All Bleed Out
I did a few set of these back in 2014 (thread here) marking the 100th Anniversary of the beginning of World War One so this year I did some more for the 100th Anniversary of the signing of the Armistice ending the war.

World War One - 100th Armistice Anniv./Remembrance Day

Each image consists of a colour photo of actual WW1 battlefields as they look today with a vintage black and white photo from the war superimposed on it and then 'ghosted'.

10. This tree is a remnant of the war that still stands. It is called "the Danger Tree" marking where No-Mans land began. It was originally marked by the Newfoundland Rgmt. that was decimated at Vimy.

When I do these I like to try and include the main combatants of the war and picture them in the same light as the others. After all, they were all just young men gone off to war: the hell and slaughter was the same for all sides.

I also try to choose old images that many war buffs will recognize.

First post here, but I just had to ask you DeathHand ... do you realise just how good those photographs are?

I'm just blown away by the "ghosts from the past" effect you've achieved there. You've given me goosebumps. I've no doubt they should be in a gallery.

Amazing. Thanks. :)

P.S. I think that was the BBC drama I watched last week. I believe they had expert lip readers watch all the footage and then dubbed the perceived comments into a sound track. The extra dimension this added to the silent footage really brought it alive.

That lip reader episode was incredible.
