ARSELING
I think some could get parachutes if they could crawl by the "tube" to the main cabin and put it on there.
The American B-29 had this tube (connection to the rear turret) because it was a pressurized bomber for high altitudes. The models before wasn't, and most gunners had their parachutes stored near them because on some stations was not enough space to carry them while on the seat.

This baby right here is a wreck of P-47D S/N 42-27609, written off, stripped of useful parts and abandoned after crash landing near Dobodura airfield complex in Papua New Guinea in September '44. Recovered with the other Thunmderbolt many years later and brought to US, after swapping hands many times, it finally went through a major reconstruction effort by AirCorps Aviation company and took to the skies again this summer.

Today, it remains the only Rebublic-built, Razorback P-47 in airworthy condition in the world. It belongs to Dakota Territory Museum and wears a different (albeit historic) paintscheme than it had back in the day, but it looks effin' awesome, as people who attended Oshkosh airventure will confirm. Lots of cool vids of it are available on YT.
