Peninsula. 2020. South Korea.

Zombies everywhere.
Taking place several years after the events depicted in Train to Busan, the whole of South Korea is overrun with zombies with only what seems to be a group of renegade soliders and a family comprising of Grandad, daughter and her two daughters.
A team is sent back to find a truck loaded with U.S. dollars for a criminal group from Hong Kong.
The film sets itself up with a reference to the fact a chemical plant caused the outbreak and there was a safe zone in Busan.
From there is moves at a resonable pace. Dramatic elements are present but so is some pretty wooden acting from a few white actors and a few cringe inducing lines in english from the Korean actors.
The film overall is a good watch, the zombies are gory and fast paced, the action is there. But it definitely looks like it playing to get a western audience. Which it sadly wont, because, "(Whine) I don't read subtitles (Whine)".
There is a overpowering soundtrack and the use of slow motion and 'key points' during action scenes.
The final act is mainly at night with ALOT of C.G.I. It reminded me of Mad Max fury road, but with computer cars.
Seoul Station and Train to Busan are classics, mainly because they were made to appeal to Korean horror fans.
Its a nice effort but sometimes appealing to your base can produce the best result.

Lucky Grandma. 2020.
6/10
Fearless granny takes the money and runs.
A old chinese woman takes a bag of cash from a dead gangster sitting next to her on the bus. Then hires a member from a rival gang to protect her.
Comedy/drama with a older chinese actress in the lead. It's filmed in the states and includes her son and his family who speak english the few times they are in the film, but mainly its her dealing with the gang and the fact they have their money. Nice film that shows a independent elderly woman and her defiance in spite of the fact what she did was wrong. Not overly violent just little moments that escalate. Any gang deaths are off screen so as to not take away from the idea that she is pretty frail despite her attiude.

Sputnik. 2020 Russia.

Next gen Alien.
A cosmonaut brings back a alien who inhabits him and feeds on the chemical released when humans are scared. The film is a slow steady burn, that builds tension, the same way Beanpole did. Set in 1983 the only noticeable CGI is the actual alien. The acting is solid and kinda emotionless but it works for the film. I wouldn't put it in the 'horror' genre, sci-fi/thriller.
The copy i d/l'd had asian subs hardcoded on, made it hard to read but not impossible.

Pandorum. 2009.

Spaceship survival.
A bloke wakes up and finds himself alone, he wakes another bloke and between them they try to get control of the ship and discover they are not alone.
Interesting film that has a decent amount of tension, at least for the first 40mins. I wasn't expecting much when i put it on but there were 'jump scares' a-plenty. After i lost interest i hit the FF button stopping only at what looked like a 'interesting' part. There was a interesting ending but by that stage i didn't care.
A good film if you just want somthing to watch.

Steel rain. 2017. South Korea.

The great leader gets shot and goes south.
A coup attempt results in the North Koreas leader getting shot and transported to the south by an officer who was originally tasked with killing the presumed traitors.
A good political thriller that has some pretty violent action set pieces, this was mainly limited to when 'the north' would launch ambush attacks. The names of the high ranking officals who are working against each other in the north got kinda confusing, but it laid out the situation quite well and involved China, Japan and the U.S. with 'the south' having to deal with each side.

Might have to check it out this weekend
I'm onto season 3 and I've enjoyed it very much. Have you seen the movie of the same name? Director Krennic is in it before he was director Krennic. Ozzy dude, plays a junky and looks like a junky.
Also there's the mma series called kingdom which is good. If you enjoy a drink and are having a drink it's more enjoyable. I watched it without a drink and I was craving one. It's made me drink lots since seeing it. Not daily though. But I drink too much when I do. Then feel like a twat. It depresses me so much I don't know why I do it.
I watched the Meg the other day. About a big shark. I do not recommend it. Tis wank.
