On July 16, 2011 17-year-old Tyler killed his parents, Blake and Mary-Jo Hadley, in their Florida home with a claw hammer by tragically bludgeoning them to death.
Then he spent three hours cleaning up and hid their bodies in the master bedroom before inviting around 60 people to a house party using his parent’s credit cards.
During the party, Tyler confessed to a friend who did not believe him until Tyler showed his friend the bodies. Around 4am the friend eventually reported it, leading to Tyler’s arrest when police came to investigate.
Tyler was high on a mix of ecstasy, marijuana, and possibly prescription drugs, and he had a pattern of substance abuse that worsened in the months before the murders. His drug use likely played a role in both impairing his judgment and fueling his mental instability.
Tyler pleaded no contest to two counts of first-degree murder. He was sentenced to life in prison originally without parole, later revised to include review eligibility after 25 years, following Supreme Court juvenile sentencing guidelines.
He’s currently incarcerated at the Gulf Correctional Institution in Florida.
Bonus information a band called SKYND made a song about it, and honestly it’s one of my favorites. Music video here.
I’m posting this on mobile, sorry if the layout is fucked.
