Concrete can be recycled. They crush it into small pieces for use as road base or crush it up smaller yet to reuse it as aggregate in a new batch of concrete. Why would they pour the road as a concrete slab rather than paving it with asphalt? Asphslt is cheaper, faster, easier and more forgiving to things like ground disturbsnce and tectonic activity. s this a common thing outside north america? They even recycle asphalt these days.
Good luck recycling a slab of concrete.
Lots of concrete in Aus. Noisier than 'tarmac' but better fuel economy. Why would they pour the road as a concrete slab rather than paving it with asphalt? When I was a lil' reaper our Interstates were great. Now they're crumbling messes of potholes and crevices, quite hazardous and damaging to vehicles at speed. Even the concrete ones are tragic shadows of their former selves.Lots of concrete in Aus. Noisier than 'tarmac' but better fuel economy.
The Autobahns were concrete as were the US interstates I think...

I live on the NSW Vic border. Victoria, under a super woke government, apart from allowing gender change upon signing a form, have cranked up government debt to the equivalent of $25 000 for each man, woman and child. When I was a lil' reaper our Interstates were great. Now they're crumbling messes of potholes and crevices, quite hazardous and damaging to vehicles at speed. Even the concrete ones are tragic shadows of their former selves.
