A man was shot dead after a dog stepped on a gun during a weekend hunting trip in Kansas, police said.
Joseph Smith, 30, was sitting in the front passenger seat of a pickup truck when he was shot in the back on Saturday, officers in Sumner county said.
“The back seat contained hunting gear and a rifle,” the county sheriff’s office said. “A canine belonging to the owner of the pickup stepped on the rifle, causing the weapon to discharge. The fired round struck the passenger, who died of his injuries.”

The identity of the vehicle owner was not disclosed. It was also unclear what happened to the dog.
A GoFundMe page set up by Smith’s former colleagues at a plumbing company to pay for his funeral expenses has raised more than $US10,000 ($14,000).
Jessica, one of Smith’s colleagues, said that he was a “truly amazing man”. She wrote: “He was kind, funny, smart and very loving. Every time he walked through the door, he would make someone smile.”
Smith is not the first American to be accidentally shot by a dog. Sonny Gilligan, 74, said he was driving on a hunting trip in New Mexico in 2018 when he was shot in the back by his dog, which stepped on a rifle in the back seat of his truck.
The Pew Research Centre said that in 2020, the most recent figures available, there were 535 unintentional gun deaths in the United States.

In an apocalyptic setting, hunting makes sense. Its survival. Hunting for sport? Fuck no. Fuck you. I'd piss on this cunts grave and give the dog a milkbone...
Well, you may want some milquetoast too and some eye liner.

Hunting allows us to get back in touch with our inner core of being. when you hunt you find all sorts of senses get switched on that you never knew. Sight, sound, smell all assume a bigger role.

'Gut feel' takes on a whole new meaning when you find yourself lured to a spot by some unseen power and there's the deer... Boom! And it's down...

It's actually kind of good...

The weapon were left charged, no security, pointing towards the drivers... It is not the dogs being dumb here... 1rst gun safety rule, never leave a gun loaded when not in use. Better, use a trigger lock device :D

Figures they would attack firearms (SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED, BTW) for what some idiot did to himself.... he placed a loaded firearm, with no safety engaged, in the back of his vehicle where the dog was obviously running around loose....MO-RON

Good God man! You pull the firing pin out, you take the rifle stock off, you pull off the barrel, tear down the action, throw all parts into a blast furnace and take them back to constituent elements with the application of O2 to make FeO2.

Now you're safe...
