STRAIGHT PRIDE WORLDWIDE!
and what a fine group of lads just doing their best to help America win the war

i'm sure at least some of them later bought a Toyota or a Datsun...imo that's a fair form of repentance

never heard the liverwurst story...i always heard it was their kidneys
Beg to differ with you. My uncles NEVER purchased anything made in Japan after the war. They saw our men strung up in trees and skinnid alive and left to die from loss of water that their skin would have otherwise kept in.....

The explosion was filmed by either Tibbets aircraft or the accompanying one. The camera malfunctioned.

A crew man took the stills with his own camera of the aftermath after they had done the big 60 degree bank and got the fuck out of Dodge after dropping the fucking thing. As you would...

Skeletal remains such as these would have been found when rubble was removed. Natural processes at work like beetles, flies, maggots etc.

One of the differences between Hiroshima and Nagasaki was that Hiroshima is surrounded by mountains which served to concentrate the blast.

Mistake: not 10 kilotons, 15 kilotons, but what's 5 KT's amongst friends?

They called Hiroshima a military base, it wasn’t really though was it.
well, yes it was:

  • major naval base
  • major army base
  • shit load of industry

"Target Selection
ww2dbaseBetween 10 and 11 May 1945, Oppenheimer led a committee which came up with a list of cities most potentially suitable as targets of atomic attacks. The committee eventually arrived at the recommendation of four targets:
  • Kyoto
  • Hiroshima
  • Yokohama
  • Kokura.
Hiroshima was chosen as the first target due to its military and industrial values. As a military target, Hiroshima was:
  • a major army base that housed the headquarters of the Japanese 5th Division and the 2nd Army Headquarters.
  • It was also an important port in southern Japan and a communications center. The mountains surrounding Hiroshima also contributed to Hiroshima being among one of the top choices among the short list of potential targets, for that the mountains might contain the destructive forces of an atomic blast in the target area, increasing the level of destruction.

US Secretary of War Henry Stimson voiced successfully against the selection of Kyoto as a target, arguing that the city held cultural importance to the world"

They built this fucker at Kure Naval Base which is located at ... wait for it... Hiroshima...

After reading this thread and the request, I decided to put up an image thread on the subject. The thread is here.
Thanks for that. I'll add to it later.

there's a lot of BS around about how 'racist' the US was in dropping the bomb but it wasn't like that.

If the bomb was to be ready when Germany was still fighting, and especially when Russia was out still fighting way out east then I'm sure Berlin would have got it first.

Most of the pics the Japs took of the scene were a little over exposed... :chair:

in retrospect, I actually thought 2 bombs showed restraint somewhat

Does Any one has Footage of the immediacy after the drop of the nuclear bombs Nagasaki and Hiroshima, how did the city looked after that, dead bodys etc? it´s a subject we don´t see often, imagine taking a walk at the city after the blast... what would you find ?
I'm sure there's plenty of public domain and classified footage of the aftermath.

The worst thing to ever happen to mankind, is the USA making and dropping atomic weapons on (largely) women, children, and very old men. The BEST thing to happen SINCE then, is Russia developing their own bombs.

The Russians saved the entire rest of the globe, from being at the mercy of the sick yankees, whos favourite passtime for 100 years has been bombing poor, mostly brown people with no means to defend themselves, taking their resources, and from time time (twice a week, without fail, for 30 years) shooting their own children in their own schools.

Long live Russia! And Mr Putin! Keeping them yankees thinking!

Unfortunately what we have now, although the lesser of the two evils, is the rest of humanity living in perpetual paranoia of impending atomic warfare, till the end of time.

It's hard to believe, it's hard to understand, but contrary to popular belief, the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs ended up saving tens of times the lives they took. Japan refused to surrender and there was no other option left than an invasion to force their surrender to stop the carnage once for all.

Estimates of human loss from an invasion of Japan (who was already talking about arming more than 28 million civilians to defend the islands) was in MILLIONS of human lives between both sides. The atomic bombs took a couple of hundred thousands and ended it almost immediately.

A tough decision, yes, but one that any commander who wants to preserve lives (of the opponent and even more so of his own soldiers) would have made without thinking too much about it.

You really have a lot of research to do if you think the Japanese military & the Russians were poor innocent victims, they made the yanks look like choir boys.
'The Russians saved the entire rest of the globe' You got to be kidding! The Russians tried to subjugate the rest of the globe, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Lithuania, Ukraine and Belarus are just a few countries that were under the Russian boot after WW2 & after Russia said they would hand countries back to their Governments once hostilities ceased (why do you think America armed Russia at the start of WW2 in the first place?) Russia dogged out on their word & that's what the rest of the World has come to expect from the Russian Goverment, why do you think their backing Ukraine???
