It seems like ages ago when this story broke open in Southwestern Ontario. The police had bodies but no suspects. Even the suspect car that they posted on every billboard in town was the wrong car: I still remember watching for it on the highways as I commuted back and forth to work. Hell, I even rode my Harley into Burlington and joined one of the search teams that was looking for one of the victims.

With that, I'll get on to the story of the young couple that murdered atleast 3 young girls in Ontario back around 1990-91.

All For Love

It was all too good to be true. In 1990, Karla was engaged to a handsome, sophisticated professional accountant with money. It was going to be an incredible wedding: one that her family and friends would never forget.

She loved Paul very much. He was so unique and so very wild in bed. She would do absolutely anything to keep his love — anything at all.

What made this situation a little different than most engagements is that for several years Paul made outrageous demands on Karla — and Karla, just as outrageously, agreed to them.

Paul was very annoyed that Karla was not a virgin when he met her. It was, therefore, from his point of view, her responsibility to make it possible for Paul to take the virginity of Karla's pretty younger sister Tammy without her knowledge or consent. Once Karla accepted that logic, the rest was easy, even the idea of videotaping the whole thing seemed to make sense to her. After all, videotaping was a way to remember important events.

Karla worked in a veterinary clinic so she had a rudimentary knowledge of sedatives used for animals. The trick was figuring out what and how much to use to knock out Tammy so that Paul could rape her. Eventually, she decided on using halothane, an anesthetic which animals inhale before surgery.

By all appearances, before and after the facts, Karla Homolka to me, never seemed to have registered as the abused party. It seemed so strongly that she clearly displayed a considerable amount of depravity and cruelty, that she didn't feel any remorse over her perverse version of crime and probably hasn't still. Even if the prosecution didn't see the videotapes, it was apparent of Karla's almost panic attempt to get off the hook. She must have sensed that the noose was tightening around them; due to the aggressive investigation that was underway and decided to make indirect claims that she herself was a victim of abuse by Bernardo, which of course, resulted to a plea bargain. Karla Homolka is as dangerous as any woman out there who has an extreme emotional dependence on men, always ever so compliant to do anything that pleases men at the expense of the innocents. She should never have been allowed to walk free.

I agree! I think she rather enjoyed playing the part that he wanted her too, and would NOT have stopped. Getting caught, she played the victim part to A tee, but those pic's of where he beat the shit outta her didn't hurt her claim's none. Well, the sad fact is Canada's justice system wanted to prosecute him and A plea bargain was perfect for all involved, except him of course! Now she get's to raise her children, and live A normal existence as A Teacher no less!

That's in Canada. I'm pretty sure over here they would have fought hard to find a loop hole. I'm sure or at least I hope Canada has found that loop hole in case this ever happens again.

True. Regarding direct evidence, the video tapes would have proved relevant and material to the case. Its unavailability during investigation and trial would also have been extremely crucial to prove Homolka's guilt, however, it was only her (Homolka's) words and pictures of her that showed "bruises" on her face were the only facts the prosecution had. I believe that the prosecution didn't want to see Homolka get a jail pass and instead opted for a plea bargain. That way, she still spends time for her crime. I could imagine Homolka going into trial without any hard evidence, only her I-am-an-unwilling-too frightened-abused-as-much-as-a-victim-myself-participant story, which probably would have had a very appealing impact to the jury, getting acquitted.

What I don't understand though is in 99% of plea deals if the person is found to have not told the truth and it can be proven they lied the deal is voided. There was plenty of proof when those videos surfaced. I also think the lawyer he gave them to should have been charged with with holding evidence.

My parents were friends of the family and even went to the wedding. I was actually at a retirement dinner about two months ago and talked with her mother. Weirdest thing is she was the nicest babysitter.

I doubt he turned them all in. However, after all this time one would think they would have surfaced. I bet people would pay top dollar to get their hands on them. I wish we had her up to date picture as well. She shouldn't be able to live in peace!!! The fact she has kids sickens me!
