Saw a dead guy this morning

Was on my way into work this morning and wondered why traffic on 140 (usually a pretty clear highway) was suddenly coming to a halt. Got a mile or so down the road and was forced, along with everyone else, to push over into the right lane to go around the 3 or 4 cruisers that were blocking the left. Just past them was a car which looked as if a giant had eaten it and shat it back out. Near the car was what may have at one point been a young man, but now looked like someone had split his skull with an axe. The police were in the process of puling a sheet over him. Had traffic been moving slower, I'd have tried to get a picture or two.

This was posted on the local paper's website shortly after I'd arrived at work:

NEW BEDFORD — A single-car crash this morning killed a local high school athlete and injured two of his companions, according to police and school officials.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:30 this morning at Exit 4 on Route 140 northbound, according to police, and one occupant — a 17-year-old student at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School — was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver and another occupant, both students at GNB Voc-Tech, were transported to St. Luke's Hospital, police said.
The deceased was identified by the superintendent's office as Andrew McCann, the senior captain of GNB Voc-Tech's football and baseball teams. He also ran on the track team, and was enrolled in the school's plumbing shop.
McCann was planning to attend American International College and earn a business management degree, with the goal of becoming a teacher at GNB Voc-Tech, said Linda Enos, the school's superintendent-director.
“(Andrew) was well known and loved by students and teachers alike. Some of us went down to hospital to spend time with the parents. We tried to give as much support as we possibly could.
“This is a huge blow to us. A lot of people are distraught about it,” Enos said.
Friends were already posting condolences on McCann's Facebook this morning.
Enos said the New Bedford, Fairhaven and Dartmouth public schools, as well as Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School, sent counselors to GNB Voc-Tech this morning.
“There were so many distraught students and staff here. There were too many for us to handle,” said Enos, adding that counseling will be available all day today and tomorrow.
McCann was a passenger in the car with fellow GNB Voc-Tech seniors Julian Reis, a student in the programming and Web design shop, and Jarrell Ervin, who is in the automotive shop. Both are being treated at St. Luke's Hospital.
“They're both fine,” Enos said.
Massachusetts State Police media spokesman Todd Nolan said troopers were headed to the hospital today to interview both students to determine what happened just before the accident.
Police closed two northbound lanes near the Kings Highway exit on Route 140 while a state police collision reconstruction team investigated the scene this morning, Nolan said.
The investigation is ongoing.

I saw an accident while driving by when I was a little girl, a dead guy laying in the street that hadn't had a sheet put over him yet. He didn't look particularly fucked up or gory though.

Strangely, even though I was maybe 7 or 8, I wasn't even phased by it

Don't get me wrong - I wasn't "phased" by anything - this isn't the first time I've happened across a body. This one was just messier than the rest. I did feel bad, briefly, as just a few minutes before, when confronted with the slowdown in traffic, I had been shouting "Someone had better be dead up there to make me late for work!"

I wasn't late for work, though, so I believe I owe the guy something in the way of an apology.

if you were late, just explain what happened and then tell your boss you got to poke the body with a stick.
If he doesnt agree how fucking cool that is, and even go so far as to say you could have even called in and made a day of it, well, you need to fucking stab that motherfucker in the temple asap and get a new boss

I wish I can take pics of 45% of the crashes that I get called out to around here. They would put the best ones a close second place. Too bad that we're too busy trying to save their life or the survivor(s) life.

I say the same thing every time.

When I was in 10th grade,I woke up really early one morning and was on my front porch smoking before getting ready for school. The sun was just coming up,and I looked to my left and saw my neighbor chic sitting on her porch too, with her legs dangling off the edge and leaning up against the wall next to her. The way she had her neck/head angled,I remember thinking "Damn, that shits gonna hurt when she wakes up..." I also noticed a bag of Mcdonalds food and a Big Mac box with almost a full burger still sitting in it and also wondered if she would finish it when she finally woke up with that horrible hangover lol (we knew she drank a lot so we figured she passed out,ya know)... So,I'm standin there smoking at like 6:45 in the morning and lookin at this chic and then I notice this old man on all fours CRAWLING around my fence into my yard and he was like gasping for air. Kinda freaked me out so I was like "whoa wait a sec,wtf are you doing dude??" He hollars out "Please help me I think my daughter hurt herself!!" From where I was standing it just looked like she was sitting there so w/o thinking much I walked around the fence and got about 10 ft from her before I saw the gun. Bitch shot herself perfectly in the temple where there was almost no splatter and instead of falling backwards, she just leaned to the side against the wall =/ all the blood was hidden by her hair and with it still barely being light outside it just looked like she was chillin. I went and got my mother and let HER handle creepy dude & dead girl and I finished gettin ready for school, cause she STILL made me go lol..

An accident like this is what sparked this fucked up fascination with all things grisly.

We were rolling through Birmingham, AL (the infected prolapse of the American south) and passed by a person who had just been hit by a semi. There wasn't much left except for a pile of mush wrapped in what looked like the remnants of a grey suit. Everyone else in my family tried their hardest not to look directly at it but I couldn't stop staring.
