That was the rule in most pubs until the 60s or 70s. Couldn't serve women until a certain time or they had their own little snug or like this place not get served at all.

It's nice sometimes to have no women around but if that was still the case I wouldn't have met my girlfriend

That's Kilkenny in the south east of Ireland. I live in Kerry and our accent is harder to understand
