Japanese tanks were the shittyest tanks of either theater, by leaps and bounds. They should have spent the metal on bullet proof vests.(haha)

What the hell killed them(# 32), alien grape vines? I'd hate to have to untie that knot.

Great set DH. Excellent commentary gives that " coup de gra" sort-a-speak. Black and white pics always lends an extra eerie look about the scene as well as antiquity.

Lol on the grapes.

I'm not positive on how they died but they may have been a machine-gun team hiding in some bracken branches on the beach when a tank shell or mortar came their way. Or they were at a spot where a shell hit and they got tossed in with the branches.

:)

Yes, the Japanese tanks used in the Pacific were like tin compared to the US tanks.

The burned out tank pictured on Pg 2 (with a dead crewman in the foreground) was a Japanese Medium Tank Type 97 Chi-Ha. As medium tank, armor was light: 8–28 mm thick on body and up to 50 mm thick on the gun turret. Her main gun was a mere 57mm cannon.

Faced by a US Sherman tank Chi-Ha's were like empty soup cans. The Shermans were also considered as medium tanks but their armor was much thicker: a max of 76mm all round. Her main gun was a 75mm cannon.

But the Chi-Ha's did harass the Shermans mostly because the Japanese would bury them in the sand or dirt leaving on the turret to show.
