Clearly Titan was in vastly deeper water so implosion rate much faster...

So one moment they are looking with wonder at the ocean floor, the next they're in eternity... with no thought possible in the time it took...

There are several sources of hydrocarbons inside a sub. Hydraulic oil, diesel oil from the auxiliary Diesel engine, kitchen oils, grease, rubber, plastics, etc. This stuff sublimes to make its way into the sub’s atmosphere. It permeates the crew’s clothing."

I came across the 'we're travelers not tourists' argument when I was back packing through SE Asia in the 80's. Felt cool then but total wank now...

So the hype about not being tourists but 'explorers' and 'travelers' together with the dinky mission patches and names (5 people in a mini bus sized pod... probably won't forget names...) is a bit OTT.

So now what will happen is that all the sea life will come from miles around to eat the remains as food is very scarce down there.

So lots of this kind of stuff...

Even more eyebrow-raising are the components used to control the vessel, which includes a Logitech video game controller to manoeuvre the sub, no GPS system and single button that supposedly helps the vessel descend like an “elevator”.​

There is also apparently no way out of the submersible aside from a hatch, which is bolted shut from its exterior. Not even an escape pod exists.​

The entire vessel – which costs passengers more than $320,000 per head to travel on – is no bigger than a van and has no seats, but conveniently is fitted with a toilet.​

Science writer David Pogue went on a similar expedition in July last year with OceanGate where he got to watch the sub from the mothership, however the experience was far from smooth sailing.​

Pogue explained there was no GPS underwater, so the surface ship is tasked with guiding the sub to the shipwreck by sending text messages.​

“But on this dive, communications somehow broke down. The sub never found the wreck,” Pogue explained.​

On a third attempt on their last day at sea, they had a successful dive where they saw the Titanic at the bottom of the ocean.​

The author and podcaster later said he was hopeful the passengers would survive due to several escape measures.​

“As we monitor the lost @OceanGateExped sub to the #Titanic, two reasons for hope. First, they have 96 hours of oxygen on board,” he said.​

A top secret military acoustic detection system designed to spot enemy submarines first heard what the US Navy suspected was the Titan submersible implosion hours after the vehicle began its mission, officials involved in the search have revealed.
The Navy began listening for the Titan almost as soon as the sub lost communications, a US defence official told the Wall St Journal. Shortly after the submersible’s disappearance on Sunday, the US system detected what it suspected was the sound of an implosion near the debris site and reported its findings to the commander on site, defence officials told the newspaper
“The US Navy conducted an analysis of acoustic data and detected an anomaly consistent with an implosion or explosion in the general vicinity of where the Titan submersible was operating when communications were lost,” a senior US Navy official said in a statement. “While not definitive, this information was immediately shared with the Incident Commander to assist with the ongoing search and rescue mission.”

The five men on board the Titan touring the Titanic wreck died after a catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber of the hull, the US Coast Guard announced early this morning (AEST).
US Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger said the discovery by a remote operated vehicle of a debris field on the seafloor, just 1600 feet (500 meters) from the bow of the Titanic, on Friday morning Australian time, is “consistent with the catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber” of the missing Titan submersible.
He said families of the five onboard were immediately informed.
