Crime
RESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno Police Department says they have arrested a man they suspect of seriously injuring a Fresno city employee in an unprovoked attack on Friday morning.
He was arrested by officers from the Southwest policing district and was being interviewed by detectives on Friday night.
He was arrested near Santa Clara Street and Van Ness Avenue, less than a mile from where the attack happened around 7:30 a.m. in the area of Kern and G streets.
Fresno police say a city employee was working on an electrical box when the suspect walked up and struck him in the back of the head with a blunt object.
Surveillance video captured the employee falling to the ground and not getting back up.
Police say the suspect then casually walked off.
"This was a vicious and unprovoked attack in broad daylight. There was nothing the city worker could've done to prevent this," said Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer.
The victim is an electrician with the city's public works department.
His name has not been released, but we know he's 57 years old and has worked for the city for 20 years.
He was working alone at the time of the attack.
The employee was rushed into surgery and remains in critical condition.
As of Friday afternoon, officials said that he had not regained consciousness following the attack
His family was with him at the hospital, including his wife and two daughters.
"Who would think what wife would think that her electrician husband would go to work on a Friday, his day off, and get a call that he was being taken to the hospital? This is horrible," said Fresno City Manager Georgeanne White.
Skyview 30 showed the extensive crime scene as officers searched for any evidence.
After hours of detective work, officers were able to track down the suspect at Van Ness and Santa Clara avenues.

Situational Awareness Achievement Level Unlocked

I'm not sure that's a good example of a lack of situational awareness. Anybody could sneak up behind somebody when they're out in public, and especially when they're working.
Sometimes, I call 'em like I see 'em, CL. Perhaps you haven't seen enough of these videos yet in order to grow eyes in the back of your head while you are in public these days, especially whenever you're alone. The bottom line is no one is responsible for your safety other than you. No matter what you're doing, be aware of your surroundings because you are entitled to nothing and no one around you is to be trusted, full stop. It's as simple as that and it's sad, but true. And the older you get the more vulnerable to such an attack you become. This is the state of our communities now, worldwide. There are hours of videos from everywhere proving this with these kinds of attacks, which have always happened since the dawn of man. Don't get caught with the situational awareness of an unharvested turnip or this same devastating atrocity could happen to you. I'm not saying be paranoid and always looking over your shoulder. I'm saying be aware because that bash to the dome could have easily killed that hapless city worker. Most of these sucker attacks happen because the victim is completely unaware making them an easy target or mark. Don't be that guy.

This group of degenerate criminal fun seekers below helped my awareness exponentially over a decade ago, and I live a half a world away. In fact, I earned my Situational Awareness Achievement Award of an actual Harvested Turnip learning about them from their videos on sights like this.

I respect your opinion, but . . . .
This website is full of great examples of people with little or no situational awareness, but the victim in that video doesn't seem to me like a good example.

Both of our eyes are in the front of our heads, and I think that anyone of us is vulnerable to that type of sneak attack. He was apparently working on something electrical, and sometimes you have to pay attention to what you're doing and not turn your head around to see who was walking up behind you. Sometimes taking your eyes off of what you're doing could pose a danger.
