Innocent Soul
In the end, the victims are over 21. Salvador Ramos is officially the perpetrator of the third deadliest school shooting in history.
Since you're all arguing about gun control and prevention, I'd like to add a possible reason why school shootings are happening so often. First of all, as I just said, the media basically gave a bronze medal to the shooter. Second: as a researcher, I found a lot of prayers for the victims in internet posts, but a lot more fangirls and admirers of the shooter in large groups that are *feeded* (I repeat: they are feeded) by the hate of those who prays for the victims. Their posts and the popularity of those depend on the hate they receive, and the consequent support from people that believe they are being attacked unfairly about their likings. Discussing about what's wrong and what's right with a true crime community member is as useful as having an argument with a colorblind person about the color of a mirror, so I don't encourage you to do that.
From my personal experience, I can tell most of the people that idolize shooters and get inspired by their actions could be less encouraged to shoot up a school if that didn't mean: becoming famous, ending their sufferance, and being pleasant. The shooters either enjoys hurting others, wants to stop their own pain, or wants to share an ideal with the true crime community and be famous.
As for what we can do, I suggest everyone to ignore those who admires the shooters. They have set their own mind, and hating on them means feeding their fantasies to get revenge on everything, because it's everything that they grow to hate when they get to the point of shooting random people. A group that is feeded from hate and pain will fade away soon, especially on the internet, when it's not feeded anymore. If the hate fades, the support fades. If the online support fades, I believe most of these new aspiring shooters will "disappear".
Now, this is just my opinion. I've been observing and interacting with the sick side of the true crime community for several years, and I've witnessed the hate and the love among fangirls and admirers of school shooters and serial killers. I saw it fading away many times, as people grow and, instead of being feeded by the hate of the internet, they get a life and find a way to deal with their problems, lose interest, or just kill themselves. So, hopefully, through all of our suggestions, we will sort out how to end the invisible empire of Harris and Klebold. And hopefully everyone (innocents, admirers, shooters) will be ok.
