Let It All Bleed Out
There were actually 2 battles fought for this airport between pro-RUssian forces and the Ukrainian Army.

The first battle flared up in late May 2014 when pro-Russian forces went on the offensive, capturing many government buildings and towns in and around Donetsk. Then they turned their sights to the airport, which was still occupied by Ukrainian forces.

The Ukrainians were able to fend off the attack on the airport and inflict several dozens causualties on the pro-Russian fighters.

These first several Sets contain mostly images of the destruction to the airport and are a mix of the first battle and the second battle.

Removal of Bodies

After taking control of the aiport, the pro-Russian fighters found the bodies of numerous dead Ukrainian troops among the rubble.

To deal with this problem they brought in a dozen or so Ukrainian POWs who were ordered to search the wreckage of the airport for bodies.

This took place on or about Feb. 25, 2015.

Great report on a case of madness that has slipped off the radar, as usual DH. These people are fucked up. I hope they have a good AmTrak system since flying is longer an option.

They're in that position because they were encouraged to rebel and were left high and dry. Not everyone in the world believes in lawyers and democracy; Some believe in the purity of fire and steel.
