BREAKING NEWS...
A child in the area is missing a few toys. A BOLO has been issued for a thief that apparently can fly.

Sweet!
And so beautiful birds; just read they're in Florida all the time, that's nice. Here in mid-Europe they became rare, the most are only passing by when migrating between their breeding- and wintering areas.

Funny how they hold their feet when laying on the ground; maybe it's because they still young?
Not seen this before on birds in general, I thought they always sit on their feet and they're hidden in the feathers.

It's because they're still young of mind, but have bodies as big as adults. They sleep and rest in some odd positions.

E17 makes it to the attic branch! A little unsteady, gotta figure out those big feets.

When will they get the white feathers on the head? Much later in life or when changing the feathers the next time (molt)?

Their heads and tails will be fully white in their fifth year. The feather pattern they have around their necks and lower back where it changes from white to brown, will never change even with a molt.
Also in their fifth year they are able to procreate and begin searching for a mate.

FUN FACT: if a flight feather(the long one) is lost and doesn't grow back, they will loose the same feather on the other wing. This happens in order to maintain balance.

Well, their beginning was a stressful start, the owls relentless...but they're coming into their own. Their departure time isn't far off, and this run on season that technically started over a year ago, will finally come to a close.
Harriet and M have certainly earned the down time.

THE E's

E17 and E18 are 114 days old today. Both have grown into strong and spunky juvenile eagles. They woke together in the pine this morning, to a lovely pastel painted sky.

51821eesa-1.jpg

They perch over night out on this far branch..............^ See them there?
51721eesg.jpg

E17 with her back facing the cam, E18 as he stands on one foot, both seem to be counting cars.
e17tightrope.jpg

E17 way out on the left branch, bouncing and winging....^
e17past.jpg

It doesn't hold her for long and she flies off towards the pasture(bottom corner)...
e18transfer.jpg

E18 is juggling a bone he found in the nest and warming up those wings at the same time(above the orange dot) ...........^
e18leave.jpg

He launches with it in his talon, transfers it to his beak and follows his sister to the pasture to start another day of exploring and soaring.

It won't be long now and they will fly high and free, full of lessons learned and they'll not return. M15 and Harriet have done it again. Their collective dedication to each other and their babes never ceases to amaze.

May they both live a wonderful long eagle life. ♡♡♡

E18 brings a skinny little fish to the nest, GOOD JOB E18!!!
fish.jpg
...and he is NOT sharing, lol.
e17spike.jpg

E17 observes from the spike, just waiting for him to drop his guard..
e17stealpiece.jpg

He gets it almost gone and she hops down, steals the tail, and down the hatch it goes...
51821ees.jpg
... they circle and bicker in the nest, which is missing some parts, lol...
51821eesa.jpg

...then they lay down together and have a nap. Awwwww, babies...
handm.jpg

Harriet and M have been hanging out in the front pine, I'm sure they're ready for a break. They damn sure deserve one.
