The knife guy actually had a chance here. He closed the distance but at the last 3 seconds, chose to posture and wave his blade around and let the other dude grab his gun out of the bag. If he went right for the kill, the dude wouldn't even have time to draw.

If you are going to brandish a weapon, you better use it.
