Was your grandfather with the Waffen SS? Which division (if you don't mind me asking)?
One of my ancestors was in the war in Patton's army. It's unfortunate the way things turned out, but at least at the end of the war Patton realized we were fighting on the wrong side. He was probably one of the more honorable Allied generals.
Be sure to thank your grandfather for his service.

My gramps was in the war also. But he was on the winning side
His brother landed on the beaches of Normandy and was a grenade launcher. He probably killed a bunch of Nazi’s

Only about 2000, in various forms of duty, 320th barrage balloon battalion is the first that comes to mind, thier job was to rig and put up explosive balloons to decrease the effectiveness of the Luftwaffe, imagine doing that shit while getting shot at.

These photos shed some light on the "racism" of the average German soldier. Most had never seen a black man face to face and these boons were just happy the war was over for them....

It seems either an accident happened or someone beheaded a Russian in boredom
This was not common even in the Waffen SS, except that partisans were sometimes killed with extreme cruelty, given that the partisans also tortured and killed the captured German soldiers.
