You've misunderstood: I wasn't trying to spin things one way or the other - only pointing out the hypocrisy in Russia labelling the Ukrainians as Nazis and thus this apparent need to "de-nazify" the country while Russia has neo-Nazis within their own ranks. In terms of the atrocities conducted in Ukrainian during the 2nd World War, you forgot to mention that they were occupied by the Nazis at the time. And I'm not a pro-Ukrainian sympathizer, I just tend to root for the underdog.

I'm reading a book about the 'Winter War' in Finland '39 at the moment, and I had to smile as the Soviets used the explanation 'we had to create a buffer zone against western imperialism' for their intervention.
In fact (how later documents revealed) they wanted to take over the whole country. And there were hints that Stalin said in a meeting that all Finns should be deported. 'They're not many… less than the population of the Leningrad area.'
On the other side, France and Great Britain wanted to intervene in Scandinavia too; mainly to prevent the German Reich to get unlimited access to minable ore in Sweden. There were at least three tries (covered as help for Finland) to convince the Swedes and Finns to let them land and march through their countries. The operation was planned for around 150,000 troops.
