These ball turret gunners had really a hefty job. And it wasn't easy to get out of this place during flight, especially in case of a malfunction of the rotating system almost impossible.

Reminds me of this early British fighter plane whose turret gunner had similar and even more issues to get and bail out safely.

This means mainly you have to use shutters at night or tape thick plack paper on the windows but cars, bikes, handlamps, etc. had to have special dimmed lights too.
The nosey Blockwart (a guy from the NSDAP) did control the blackout measurements (and other things).

Intake procedure for the 14-year-old Czeslawa. Three months later she got killed by a Phenol injection in the heart.

Bomb squad training in Great Britain. They trained to be able to work at night, the soldiers must be able to disarm any kind of explosive device blindly. They were called into action more in WW2.
