The Srebrenica massacre in July 1995 became one of the most notorious episodes of the war in Bosnia. According to the UN decision, the city was declared a security zone, where civilians could drive safely through the bloodshed. In two years, thousands of Bosniaks moved to Srebrenica. When he was captured by the Serbs, the army organized a massacre. According to various estimates, 7-8 thousand Bosniaks died - mostly boys, men and the elderly. Later, the international court recognized the events as genocide.
Massacres of civilians were not uncommon for the war in Bosnia. The massacre became a logical continuation and inhuman treatment of opponents to each other. In 1993, the town was occupied by the BiH Army under the command of Naser Oric. That is how the enclave of Srebrenica was created - a small piece of land, under the control of Muslims, but completely surrounded by the territory of the Republika Srpska.

Thus, Bosnians began punitive attacks on neighboring villages. dozens of Serbs were killed during the attack. All this adds fuel to the fire. The two warring armies hated each other and were ready to insult innocent civilians. In 1992-1993. Bosnian Serb villages were burned. Complete destruction of about 50 settlements.

In March 1993, he drew the attention of the United Nations to Srebrenica. The organization declared the city a safe haven. Dutch peacekeepers were introduced. For them it was assigned a separate database, which became the safest place for many miles around. Despite this, the enclave was under siege. The "blue helmets" could not affect the situation in the region. The events in Srebrenica in 1995 took place just as the Bosnian army had surrendered the town and the neighborhood, leaving civilians alone with Serb teams.

In July 1995, the Republika Srpska Army launched an operation to take control of Srebrenica. The attack was carried out by the Drina body. The Netherlands almost did not try to stop the Serbs. All they did - fire over the attacker's head, to scare them. About 10,000 soldiers took part in the attack. They continued to move on in Srebrenica, which is why the peacekeepers decided to evacuate to their base. Unlike UN forces, NATO planes tried to fire on Serbian tanks. After that, the advance of the cracks threatened over much smaller peacekeepers. The Alliance has decided not to interfere with the elimination of the Bosnian enclave.

On July 11, in the village of Potocari, about 20,000 refugees gathered on the walls of a military unit belonging to the UN peacekeeping force. The Srebrenica massacre did not affect several Bosniaks who managed to break through to a protected database. Enough space is not everything. Only a few thousand people take refuge. The rest in anticipation, the Serbs had to hide in the surrounding fields and abandoned factories.

The Bosnian government realized that the arrival of the enclave's enemies would be over. Therefore, the management decided to evacuate the Srebrenica civilians in Tuzla. This mission was given to the 28th Division. It was a war of 5,000, about 15,000 refugees, hospital staff, city administration and so on. D. On the 12th of July this convoy is in ambush. A military battle began between Serbs and Bosniaks. The civilians fled. Later, they had to get to Tuzla on their own. These people were unarmed. They tried to keep the detours, so as not to stumble at Serbian checkpoints. According to various estimates, about 5,000 people fled before the Srebrenica massacre in Tuzla began.

When the Republika Srpska army took control of the enclaves, soldiers began mass executions of Bosniaks who had failed to escape to safer areas. The massacre lasted for several days. The Serb divided the Bosnian men into groups, each of which was sent to a separate room.

The first mass executions on July 13. Bosniaks were taken to the Cerska river valley, where large-scale executions were carried out. Also shootings occurred in large barns belonging to the local agricultural cooperative. A Muslim awaiting imminent death is being held captive without food. They were given only a little water to sustain life until the moment of execution. the heat of July and the crowded halls of the abandoned building became an excellent medium for unhygienic conditions.

The first killed bodies were thrown into the ditches. Then the police began to assign a special technique to remove the corpses in a specially prepared place where huge mass graves were exhumed. The military wanted to cover up their crimes. But they were not able to hide with such great crimes on a scale enough for me to leave. Later, investigators gathered a lot of evidence of violence. In addition, the generalized testimony of numerous witnesses.

Not only firearms were used in the killing, but also grenades thrown by barracks full of captured Bosniaks. Later, investigators found these warehouses leftover blood, hair and explosives. Analysis of all material evidence makes it possible to establish some of the victims, the type of weapon used, and so on. D.

People were caught in the fields and on the roads. If the Serbs stopped the refugee buses, they took all the men with them. Women are happier. UN representatives began negotiations with Serbs and persuaded them to be sent from the enclave. Srebrenica left 25,000 women.

The Srebrenica massacre was a large-scale killing of most civilians in Europe since World War II. There were so many deaths that their burial was found many years later. For example, in 2007, a mass grave of a Bosniak, resting more than 600 bodies, was accidentally discovered.

How are the events in Srebrenica in 1995 possible? In a few days, there were no international observers in the city. They could at least replicate information about what happened to the whole world. Significantly, rumors of the killings began to filter out just days after the incident. No one had any information about what the scale of the Srebrenica massacre was. The reasons for that lie in the direct patronage of criminals by the authorities of the Republika Srpska.

When the wars in the former Yugoslavia were behind us, Western countries set a condition for Belgrade to extradite Radovan Karadzic before the Tribunal. He was the president of the Republika Srpska and the chief of officials, which is why the massacre in Srebrenica began. Photos of this man always go on the pages of western newspapers. For more information about that, he was declared the main prize of five million dollars.

Karadzic was not captured until many years later. He lived in Belgrade for about 10 years, changed his name and appearance. A former politician and soldier filmed a small apartment in Yuri Gagarin and worked as a doctor. Intelligence agencies managed to reach the fugitive only because of a phone call from an exile neighbor. Belgradets advised you to look unrecognized because of his suspicious resemblance to Karadzic. In 2016, he was sentenced to 40 years in prison for organizing mass terror against the Bosniak civilian population and other war crimes.

In the first days after the tragedy, Bosnian Serb generals denied large-scale executions. He was sent by a commission to investigate the events in Srebrenica in July 1995. In our report, we are talking about hundreds of dead prisoners.

Karadzic was then held by the government with the version that the Bosnian army tried to break out of the ring and escape to Tuzla. The bodies of those killed in those battles were exposed to Serbian opponents as evidence of "genocide". The Srebrenica massacre in 1995 was not recognized by the Republika Srpska. An objective field investigation began only after the end of the war in Bosnia. Until this moment, the enclaves are still under the control of the separatists.

Although today the massacre in Srebrenica in July 1995 condemned the authorities in Serbia, the current president of this country refuses to acknowledge the genocide that took place. According to Tomislav Nikolic, the state must find the perpetrators and punish them. However, he believes that the wording "genocide" would not be correct. In Belgrade, he actively cooperates with the Tribunal. The extradition to The Hague is one of the most important conditions for Serbia's accession to the European Union. The problem of integration of this country as a whole of the โ€œfamilyโ€ of the Old World has still not been solved in the last few years. In this case, neighboring Croatia joined the EU in 2013, although it was affected by the Balkan wars and the gloom of bloodshed.

The horrific massacre in Srebrenica in 1995 had direct political consequences. The capture of Serb territory under the control of members of the UN peacekeeping force led to the beginning of NATO bombing in Republika Srpska. North Atlantic Treaty Organization interventions to expedite the end of the war. In 1996, Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats signed the Dayton Accords ending the bloody Bosnian war.

Although the Srebrenica massacre took place in 1995, it has been a long time, the echo of these events continues to be given in international politics. In 2015, at a meeting of the UN Security Council, where a draft resolution on the tragedy in the Bosnian enclave was considered. The UK has proposed recognizing the massacre of Muslim genocide. This initiative is also supported by the US and France. China abstained. Russia opposes the resolution and vetoes it. Kremlin officials at the UN explained the decision by saying that too harsh an assessment of events in Bosnia could lead to another round of interethnic conflict in the Balkans today. Nevertheless, the wording "genocide" is still used in some cases (for example, the Hague Tribunal).

The Tribunal found that the person sanctioned by the massacre was General Ratko Mladic. As early as July 1995, he was charged with genocide and crimes against humanity. On his conscience was not only about the events in Srebrenica in 1995, but also the blockade of Bosnian capital, hostage-taking, who worked at the UN, and so on. D.

First, they generally lived peacefully in Serbia, which was not given by the commander of the international court. When he was overthrown by Milosevic, Mladic had to flee and live in hiding. The new authorities arrested him only in 2011. The trial of the general goes so far. This process was made possible thanks to the testimonies of other Serbs accused of participating in the massacre. It is through Mladic that all report officers report on the killings of Bosniaks and their graves.

The approximate General chose the places where massive mass graves were excavated. Investigators found several dozen graves. All of them were randomly placed in the vicinity of Srebrenica. He toured the former enclaves, not only in the summer, but in the fall of 1995.

In addition to Mladic, many other members of the Republika Srpska Army have been indicted for crimes in Srebrenica. The first in 1996, his time in prison was the mercenary Draลพen Erdemoviฤ‡. much evidence on which he lined up further investigation he gave. Shortly afterwards, the arrests of high-ranking officers - Radislav Krstic and his entourage. The responsibility is not just personal. In 2003, the new Republika Srpska government, which is part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, pleaded guilty to massacring Bosnian civilians. In the 1990s, there was a war with Muslims, with active participation in Belgrade. Independently of Serbia, through its parliament in 2010, it condemned the massacre.

Interestingly, the Hague tribunal has not been left without consequences the indulgence of the Dutch peacekeeping force, located at a base near the site of the bloodshed. Colonel Karremants is accused of giving away some of the Bosnian refugees, knowing that Serbs would be killed. More than two decades of endless trials and court sessions have gathered significant evidence of the bases of these atrocities. For example, in 2005, thanks to a search for Serbian human rights activists, a video was found and released that recorded the facts of the executions.
Very interesting, thx. The Dutch have blood on their hands but claim they did not get air support in time and had no choice but to do...nothing.

To my opinion, they never had, and will never have the Rambo-to-the-resque mentality that would be required in such a tense situation. Such bravery is not in their dna because they are traders, not real, hardened soldiers.

Colonel Karremants name, however, is misspelled. His name is Karremans. This genocide will haunt him as long as he lives.

Some part of this war was negotiation with victims and this is a truth a lot could be done but it wasnโ€™t, they watched them being taken away and stood still, what a scum of peacemakers
The Dutch were left in a shit position by NATO, sure they could have done more, they could have been wiped out as well with all the Serb tanks & artillery ringing the city & NATO doing 'deals' with the Serbs then double crossing them, the release of the civilians to the Serbs was not the commanders best moment, I'm not to sure he had a choice though, no air support, no relief, no way out, the Serbs gave him an offer along the lines of "we're coming to take them, I 'hope' none of your people get hurt, accidents happen" No one got out of that conflict without shit on their hands, good write up :tu:

War is disgusting. Genocide occurred end of the 20th century, in the heart of Europe, where the developed countries are always preaching abou human rights. It's worse!

The Dutch didn't know what to do
There were a total only of 400 Dutch peacekeepers in Bosnia without any serious heavy armament, there were too few Serbs to be arrested, there were many more Serbs with heavy weapons
The Dutch barracks were surrounded by Serbs who were far more numerous and called on the Dutch peacekeepers to either leave voluntarily or be shot.

This is how the Dutch peacekeepers left Ratko Mladiฤ‡ lied to the international press (even propaganda footage was taken where Mladiฤ‡ visits Bosnian civilians held as prisoners of war and strokes little boys' heads behind the fence)
He told the media that they would not hurt the Bosnians, they would just take them to a safe place by bus but instead they were executed
Actually, the Americans should have intervened right away but America always waits for the blood to flow and only starts to take action after itโ€™s too late
But the war did not end after the Bosnian genocide, the Serbs attacked the Bosnians with guerrilla methods and even shot NATO peacekeepers with sniper rifles.
This genocide was an ethnic cleansing and to this day foreign NATO peacekeepers are stationed so as not to overthrow peace in Bosnia - Herzegovina

This is not a Holohoax

The Jews were exterminated by Hitler not only for racial but mainly for political reasons
The extermination of the Jews took place for political and security reasons, so the SD and the four irrespective Waffen SS Einsatzgruppe units do the job, this was a political security question for Hitler not only racism issue

These wretched peoples were executed as ethnic and religious reasons, not because they posed a threat to the Serbs

I've seen the footage where Mladic is telling Karremans what to do and what not to do, while Dutchbat first and main focus was to PROTECT the safe zone. Karremans can be seen to be scared, not qualified to withstand Mladic intimidating, manipulating scare tactics. Karremans is a Colonel for christ sake! He bowed to Mladic like a sissy, taking his word for granted that the Bosnian muslims would only be interrogated, not killed.
Would you trust the Devil when he would offer to invite your children to his place and look after them? Hell no.

I agree that the Dutch were in a bad position and they had to make an impossible decision between two evils, but Karremans should've tried to save more time and resist more in order to not give in to that butcher Mladic so fast. I've seen the Dutch in other military situations where they messed up, e.g. shooting their own people by mistake or using malfunctioning explosives. The Dutch are not true killers, with the exception of a few good K1 fighters/kick boxers, lol.

Back to Mladic. He was testing Karremans, and won on every level, first mentally, then physically by getting what he wanted. When Mladic threatened Karremans to kill or torture Dutchbatters in case he wouldn't obey, the Dutch colonel should've shown his teeth. I still wonder if Karremans could've used violence as self defense under the ROE (Rules of Engagement) without breaking international law. Why didn't he pressure Mladic in return with this ROE ruling? Why did Dutchbat even assist Mladic troops during the seperation of muslim men and women and children that made it easier for the genocide to unfold? By doing that, they seem to have violated the core values of their mission. Like I said, the Dutch are more trained for, and used to peace missions and diplomacy under "safe" (NATO/UN) conditions, not to the filthy, dirty blood and guts guerilla war style. I wonder what would've happened if Dutchbat would've been an American or British mission.

We will never know, but Europe in general, and the Dutch in this specific case, fucked up really bad. Always waving the racism and fascism flag when right politicians are getting votes, but when pictures of starving men in camps occured in the news media (comparisons with WW2 were made), too much time of diplomatic bla bla bla was wasted before any hard action was taken.

Yes, the Dutch are very good in martial arts in worldwide level, better martial artists than the Chinese or the Japanese
But if we go back to World War II, the Waffen SS "Wiking" and "Nordland" units fought outstandingly

It is not the Dutch who are to blame for this Bosnian incident, but international politics
The NATO should have intervened sooner but as it is well known the Americans do not know the concept of prevention and do nothing only when significant blood has flowed
Even though American and international NATO troops have marched in by then, but that innocent 8,000 civilians, old and children, will no longer be brought back by anyone
